What is Muscimol?

Muscimol is the main compound that gives Amanita muscaria its psychoactive and therapeutic properties. Chemically, muscimol acts as a potent GABA receptor agonist, meaning that it activates GABA, a neurotransmitter with calming effects. By affecting GABA receptors, muscimol reduces the activity of the nervous system, leading to calming and relaxing effects.
