Collection: KRATOM

The kratom tree, botanically known as Mitragyna speciosa Korth. , grows naturally in southern and central Asia. The tree can grow to be very large, reaching a height of up to 15 meters and a spread of over 5 meters. Its leaves are dark green and have veins that can be red, white or green. A similar species, Hallea , occurs wild in parts of Africa but is not part of the kratom genus.

A member of the Rubiaceae family (the coffee family), the Mitragyna genus is found in tropical and subtropical regions of both Asia and Africa. The Asian species thrive in rainforests, while the African ones are more often found in swamps.

The traditional use of Kratom is so old that its origin cannot be determined. The plant has different names depending on the language and region, such as Krahtom, Ketum, Kakuam and Ithang. It has been used as a traditional medicine for hundreds of years and is valued for its versatility.

Historically, kratom was used by poor laborers and farmers to combat fatigue and increase their stamina during long workdays, which is why kratom is often associated with the working class in parts of Thailand.
